HOLY SHIT, PEOPLES OF MIDDLE-EARTH PAGE 361!
FINGON HAS TWO FUCKING KIDS! ARE YOU SHITTING ME?
This throws a serious wrench into things.
In all the tables [Findecáno] is marked as having a wife, though she is not named; in the first, two children are named, Ernis and Finbor, Ernis subsequently becoming Erien
WHAT.
PS) What kind of idiot names his son Finbor?
PPS) Hey remember that time I was bugging people on AIM and saying that the irregular the comma placement in the sentence about Fingon sending his young son to the Havens indicated he grammatically must have had more than one child? I rest my case.
PPPS) I prefer Findor.
PPPPS) This has completely thrown me off my Fingon storywriting. I have to go to bed now and rethink my life. By which I mean his life.

By which I mean his life. i) ... but in the final table they were struck out, with the note that Fingon 'had no child or wife.' (ibid.) ii) Actually, now that I think about it, i) gives me an idea about a bitter divorce where the wife got custody and left, to head a new dynasty of 'lost Noldorin prince(sse)s' full of Mary Sues and Gary Stues. If I were a different sort of person, I would write an angsty Gay!rivendell story about Erestor Son of Erien. iii) How do you decide which version of canon to accept as your own? Serious question.

iii) How do you decide which version of canon to accept as your own? Serious question. Generally, I tend to go with bizarre little things mentioned once in HoME and then discarded. Like this, for example. Especially if it conflicts with other things canatics like to be firm about. This is how I ended up with Ingoldo as Fingolfin's mother-name, Findor-son-of-Fingon, Eonwe-son-of-Manwe, Nienna-sister-of-Melkor, Maedhros living on Amon Ereb, and Makar and Measse still included in the hierarchy of the Ainur.

Yes. I recall that very well.
Which is damn close to Ereinion. How is this? Twins. Finbor dies young. Erien does something to annoy old Dad -- "I have no son!!" Fingon sits Shivah.
That's definitely something to cry about.

Nienna-sister-of-Melkor: I'd forgotten that one. ChaoticBinky has Nienna and Melkor as lovers in one of her stories. I am sure she would be horrified to learn that they are brother and sister (just kidding, she might really like it actually).
Well, after thinking about it overnight, I am not including two kids in my story "Fingon's Heir" which I have been plotting for a long time.

I would be surprised if anything could horrify Binky. Especially something as tame as evil incarnate Vala incest. Oh come on, Oshun. I'm going to give it a go. Just think of all the canatic knickers you'd get in a twist.

Which would make Gothmog the nephew of Nienna. I love the weirdness that is the Book of Lost Tales (both volumes). Yep, back when the Valar still had functioning genitalia and before Evil (tm) became fissiparous.

Wasn't Gil Galad once a possible child of Fingon (like written in the margin) but then was changed to Orodreth? Or vice versa.

My interpretation is that Finbor=Findor=Ereinion=Gil-galad (going with the Gil-galad-son-of-Fingon idea). Here the name of Fingon's son is Finbor, but elsewhere it says that Fingon sends his young son Findor to the Havens. Which then reappears in the Silmarillion as Fingon sending his young son Ereinion to the Havens.
