I find it interesting the discussion regarding Mithril and the possible correlation to titanium.
Did you know that Athelas might be a real flower here in this world? I took a look at the latin names of herbs, and came across Althaea officinalis. It's marshmallow (not to be confused with the campfire treat!), and the word Althaea is the Greek word for cure. I figured it would not be too hard to believe that maybe the Master changed some letters around to fit the different world he was writing about. Pretty neat huh?

Thanks russandol! I had the happy dance going when I found that bit of information! LOL I really do think that The Master had much of this world in the stories, and taking the time to check out what could be opens the mind and the heart to a deeper appreciation and respect for what we do have as a people, imho. The Master was a linguistics expert, and any expert in languages would have at least a basic knowledge of Greek and Latin. Tolkien went further with this into middle and old English and several Scandinavian dialects that would allow him fertile fields for slight language deviations that he could put into his treatises on Middle Earth and we have all benefitted from his expertise. What fun!
