I know the answer must be right under my nose, but--What would they speak in Arnor? Adunaic? Quenya, Sindarin? It seemed to me like Westron had developed in the South after many years and the contact of many different peoples. Given that Arnor and Gondor were estranged, what would they have spoken there? Their own adunaic-derived language? Did Tolkien ever say? Any kind of speculation will be very much apppreciated.

My totally uneducated guess would be a combination of Sindarin and Common Tongue.

I know the answer must be right under my nose, but--What would they speak in Arnor? Adunaic? Quenya, Sindarin? I've done no research into this at all, but I would imagine Sindarin. They did use Sindarin names. Also, the upper classes of Gondor were speaking Sindarin throughout the Third Age, so it would make sense for Arnor to do the same.

Thanks so much, Darth and Randy. Who would have thought I would *ever* need that bit of information? ;-D I guess I never truly get to know a character until I have to write them...
