I have a copy of the Atlas of Middle Earth and can't put my hands on it (I've GOT to get my house cleaned). I need to know the amount of time it would take to get from Tirion to Valmar at an average pace. Helyanwe needs to get from Tirion to meet with Lord Aule and it is easier to have her go to Valmar than to his southern forge. Help, please? - Erulisse (one L)

Don't know if this is too late, but according to Karen Fonstad the distance between Valmar and Tirion is somewhere between 250-300 miles. And according to this site: www.theoriginalseries.com/traveltimes.htm, the average time it would take to travel 260 miles, in terrain consisting of plains and rolling downs, is 10 days. That should give you a good basis to work with. Hope it helps

Hmm, I contacted a good friend, Fiondil, who works extensively with Valinor and I think I'm using his time frame which seems reasonable to me. I haven't gotten to this specific part in the story yet, so I can still do some research, but I do have a time period of 5-6 days to Alqualonde from Tirion and currently am using a four-day period from Tirion to Valmar. I'll check my atlas again, but I didn't recall that Karen said anything specific in terms of distance for Valinor, only for areas farther east (where she will come in very handy indeed).
Thanks EofC, I appreciate your response. It has spurred me on to checking into this more.

I got the information by measuring the distance between Valmar and Tirion on the map on pp 16-17 (The Great March) with my ruler, and then held it to the scale to get an idea of the distance. It has spurred me on to checking into this more. Have fun

Ah! Excellent! I'll see what I can do when Helyanwe lets me take a short break - LOL.
