Medical advice needed.
I would like to have Éomer knocked off a horse in a jousting sequence of a story.
I prefer him knocked unconscious, for at least a couple of minutes, if that is possible, but with no lasting problem. I do not want any serious head injury. He's wearing a metal helmet, so might get some minor bruising or lacerations on his face. It's hot and dusty.
I need Elrond to intervene and see that he receives reasonable medical treatment. Damned if I know what that might be. I want people to be concerned.
I have a scene coming up later that evening in the Houses of Healing where I want him resting under medical observation over night at least.

Couple of minutes of unconsciousness with no lasting damage shouldn't be a major issue. If it's just the mild closed head injury, then reasonable medical treatment would just be close observation for about 24 hours to make sure he doesn't deteriorate - Elrond would likely (in my opinion) know about the classic 'talk and die' history with certain intracranial bleeds - people lose consciousness briefly, then seem normal, then later lose consciousness again. So close observation - waking him up to make sure he still responds normally - every hour or so. Lacerations, if he has them, would need suturing. Bruising - no special treatment, perhaps arnica applied to the bruises, perhaps leeches if they're really dramatic bruises. If you'd like, you can e-mail me!

That fits perfectly with my storyline. I think I will try to write this early tomorrow and then check back with you after I rough it out to make sure I don't do anything stupid! You're great! I really appreciate the help.

I really appreciate the help. My pleasure! If you need it, my e-mail is surgsteel at gmail dot com. I'm always more than happy to help with medical details. It's the reason I started writing fanfic - I saw them done not-quite-right so many times, and I figured I could either be bummed and whine or I could write my own fic.
