*Sigh* I need a decent, upstanding name for a first age dwarf - and I don't mean some 15 syllable thing known only to his second cousin, twice removed... Although I stand by 'Foli' and 'Threat' as perfect examples as far as LotRO is concerned, I can't persuade myself to actually use them in anger ;P I doubt anyone has any more inspiration for this then I do - but if you are smitten by a name, let me know! ('Foli' is the working name for now - it makes me grin at utterly inappropriate moments... Thank you, Talen )

Since a lot of the words Tolkien used were Finnish, I found a site with a list of Finnish words and picked something to do with the Dwarf's personality. Hope that helps.

Tolkien took his names for the 13 Dwarves and a certain cranky pipeweed-addicted Maia of The Hobbit directly from this poem of the Poetic Eddas. With the idea that JRRT used Nordic nicknames (versus the secret "true names" of the Khazad), I like this site, too: The Viking Answer Lady!

Thanks to both! Nice suggestions / resources, I'm sure I can find a suitable name in there (I am amused that 'Foli' actually occurs in that list of Norse names... )

So, I take it, Snezi, Dopi, Hapi, etc. wouldn't work for you? There is a writer by the name of Adaneth to whom I would go for all things Dwarvish. Perhaps we could bring her in on this?

*Chortle* So those are either Snow-white type names, or those weird reindeer... I always get those mixed up! As suggested, I intend take a leaf out of Tolkien's book and steal a name from a saga
