I am posting this here for a friend who is working on some fanfic yet to be posted. This has been nagging at her and I admit I don't know the answer and have probably been writing it wrongly myself. She posted on RealElvish, but would like a simpler answer. What she basically wants to know is how one writes:
Son of Fëanor ( singular ) in Quenyan Son of Fëanor ( singular ) in Sindarin Sons (plural ) of Fëanor in Quenya and Sindarin Something owned or made by Fëanor such as the lamps, etc in Quenyan and Sindarin.
Can any-one help? Many thanks!

She posted on RealElvish, but would like a simpler answer. What she basically wants to know is how one writes: RealElvish. I see where the problem is. Singular: Q Fëanárion S Fëanorion or Faenorion, if you want to be mightily pretentious. Plural: Q Fëanáriondi S Fëanoryn (referring to some of them), pretentions Faenoryn S Fëanorionnath (referring only to all of them as a group), pretentious Faenorionnath BUT I would not use any of those plural versions, because I think it's a bit ridiculous to do so. I would go with 'sons of Fëanor'. And use the singular versions as formal titles only. As in 'Macalaure Feanárion', but never 'the Feanorion'. Adjectival form is Q Fëanárian or S Fëanorian. Fëanorian sword, and so forth. These are not true Elvish words, but anglicisations along the lines of Gondorian. True Elvish would be Q sing. Fëanárova pl. Fëanároiva, S sing. and pl. Fëanorren (Faenorren), but as this is getting silly, I strongly advise against ever thinking about considering maybe using these at some point. Go with Feanorian. Because writing 'Fëanároiva lanterns' is an act of stupidity on the level of deserving a punch in the nuts. PS) Diaresis (ë) is optional. Acute accent (á) is mandatory. PPS) Quenya, not Quenyan.

Thanks so much. I will keep this a note of this and pass it on. I don't think either of us want to get into the Fëanáriondi , Fëanoryn, Faenoryn, Fëanorionnath, Faenorionnath. I don't think it adds to the story.
Blast, people used to invariably tell me to go there; where should I go for accurate but fairly everyday Elvish?

Don't write it at all? I've been taking out a lot lately in edits - not all - I used to write with some-one who wrote so much in that I had to keep checking the translations at the bottom. When she said she didn't want her writing to be public anymore I changed it to English as it was easier to read and did not block the flow. I prefer some words to their English counterparts but I realized my favorite stories didn't have more than a couple. 'Nuff said.
