So we have mother names and father names for female Quenya elves, and also family names. But what is the appropriate ending on the family name for a female? I know it is usually -ion for a male...but I've been flipping through my sources and can't find what it should be for a female... Help please!

-iel [example: Elerondiel] Apparently Tolkien moved from his original idea -ien to -iel.

What Russa said. The -ion ending means "son of...", and -iel means "daughter of..."
At least, that's how it works in Sindarin. Dunno if the Quenya term is the same.
O Darth............?

I suspect our SUL is busy trying to finish up his Big Bang fic and may not be able to comment, but I have a bit of time, I was just trying to tie up some loose ends for Helyanwe. So...Darth, if you have the ability and motivation to chime in here, I would VERY MUCH appreciate it. I thought it might be -iel, but I would like to be sure.

Out of curiosity, what exactly do you mean by 'family name'? Russandol isn't wrong, other than that. -iel and -ion are the standard-fare suffixes for naming purposes, though if you want the full forms, that would be yelde and yondo.

Exactly, Russa. I needed the patronymic ending. Thanks, all!!!
