I have been having fun with the online tengwar doohickey (oh yes, procrastination) but realised halfway through that changing the input language from english to sindarin got me totally different tengwar (feel free to call me a dunce here)
Since I could find no handy manual to explain this to me is it safe for me to assume that putting in a sindarin name, say, eh, Oropher, the input language should be sindarin? (I know this is a stupid question but I keep questioning myself.)

(I know this is a stupid question but I keep questioning myself.) Yes, the modes have been designed to fit the input language, so that for transcribing a Sindarin name you should use one of the Sindarin modes. unless you consider Oropher to be an English name? ;D

Yes, that's it exactly. There are different modes of tengwar fitted to the different phonological constraints (and other gimmicks, like English having tengwar for 'of', 'the' and similar little function words) of the respective languages in the OTT, so if you input a different language text, you're going to get a different result.

oh thank goodness (and a pity, the names looked nicer with english input though Thranduil didn't change a whole lot either way). I got it right then. Thank you both! *takes off her dunce cap*
