If anyone has a suggestion for a new board or sub-board, list it here.

How about a board where we can recommend writing resources to one another... books, websites, courses etc? That way they could be kept in the same place and be easily accessible. There could be threads for different fandoms, areas of writing (e.g. grammar, plot, dialogue), books, websites etc...

I second that motion. A collective pool of resources would be useful.

Oh, Great Lizard, I think we need a Shameless Plea for Help Board. New posts are getting buried.

Seconding Randy's plea...
It will (possibly) stop me just pushing random buttons until I get the required result...

At Kymahalei's suggestion, I've added a new board called 'Writing Tips and Techniques' for the discussion of anything related to the mechanics and craft of writing (characterisation, description, POV, whatever you can think of).
Also, the 'History' board has been renamed 'Biology, Physics, and Other Practical Problems'. It is no longer a place just to discuss history-related items, but any questions requiring real-world answers (anything from medicine to space travel to mediaeval Japanese culture).

So what is the "Writing Resources" board for? I'd venture to say that serves as a board where one might add links to say, glossaries of unusual or archaic words, ye Olde Anglo-Saxon names, thesauruses/thesauri, etc. Basically, that board could be considered a repository for references whereas the new board will address questions such as "When is exposition acceptable and when is it annoying?" "How do I get into the head space of my character?" and stuff like that.

The idea for this board came out of some discussions Ky and I were having about the process of writing, such as how to create voice for a character or how to describe the setting without stopping the action for a long descriptive passage. That kind of thing. The two most likely boards for this kind of discussion, Writer's Resources and Writing Woes, didn't seem to fit the bill exactly. As Pande says below, Resources seems to mean links to interesting sites or books or whatnot, and Writing Woes seemed to be more specific to whinging. Both are useful, especially the whinging one (can I employ it now?), but they are subsets of the one just created, which is an umbrella board for talking about the craft of writing in general. I find that writers love to talk about the process of writing -- sometimes more than actually doing it. ;D We enjoy learning about different approaches and the myriad ways we solve problems. Personally, I always learn a lot from people talking about their process, if only to be able to reassure myself that the way I'm approaching it is okay. LOL So, I thought we could put up topics for discussion here, whatever we find interesting or is something we might currently be struggling with. For example, someone could start a thread with ideas to overcome writer's block or another on how to sustain suspense in a story, or fresh approaches to physical descriptions of our characters. I think it's especially useful to include samples of what we're talking about, whether from our own stuff or from published pieces. In fact, I think I'll put one up now that I struggle with a lot. I'd be interested in your takes on it. So what is the "Writing Resources" board for? I'd venture to say that serves as a board where one might add links to say, glossaries of unusual or archaic words, ye Olde Anglo-Saxon names, thesauruses/thesauri, etc. Basically, that board could be considered a repository for references whereas the new board will address questions such as "When is exposition acceptable and when is it annoying?" Under writing discussion, what about a board for advice which is often heard but not really useful?

Under writing discussion, what about a board for advice which is often heard but not really useful? I think this could easily be filed under 'writing woes'. You can start a thread for bad advice if you like.
