The rules of this board are very simple.
1) Post your writing and/or comment on the writing of others.
2) Don't be a twat.
Point one expanded:
What can you post? Pretty much anything.
Though we are primarily a Tolkien-fanfic-centred board, you can also feel free to post stories from other fandoms or even original fiction. Gen, het, and slash are all fine here. Even RPF is allowed.
What can't you post?
Well, this is where common sense comes in. Don't post stories that glorify illegal acts (murder, rape, bestiality, child abuse, etc.). That's not to say you can't post stories about these issues: just make sure they're tasteful or at least convey that illegal = bad. And have a warning at the top so the readers who don't want to read will know to skip over. Any stories posted that don't comply with this rule will have to be deleted, because they're also against the Proboards TOS.
To learn more about where to post what kind of stories, read the 'Where do I post it?' thread.
The comments you post on this board can range from 'OMG I LUV THIS!!!!!!' to a lengthy critique of points that could use improvement. Because we are a writing workshop board, and our goal is to improve our own writing while helping others do the same, constructive criticism should be expected and will be encouraged.
If you only wish to receive nice praise on your stories, this is not the place for you. But if you have an interest in hearing opinions and suggestions on how to improve your skills, come on down.
Point Two expanded:
'Don't be a twat' just means that I don't want anyone starting flame wars here. I don't demand that all members like everyone else. But I think it's only fair that everyone be civil. Discussions and debates where people disagree are fine. Calling somebody a stupid cunt will bring a smiting down on your heinie.
And yes, you can fucking swear on this board. We're adults.
