Oshun, your essay was very well researched and presented. Mine, I suspect, attracted more attention because there is a certain "sex-appeal" to the theme and even the title. Your piece definitely had the sexiness to generate comments. You whopped me fair and square--not only did you get more reviews, but they were longer. I'm delighted with a Second under the circumstances.

Perhaps next year someone will nominate my rather pedestrian essay "Water as a Motif in Tolkien's Work" and then you can beat me.

Oh, Jeez! I just looked at my email, and I actually placed, as well! I had not expected anything, but there it is: A Son of Eärendil received an Honorable Mention in Genres: Adventure: General (I think this had some really stiff competetion, so I'm pretty pleased w/ HM.)
In the Corner received Third Place in Genres: Ficlet: Eriador or Shire Also, big congratulations to everyone! Even the ones against whom I competed!

It sounds like one of those sneaky sleeper hits. Nonfiction is wierd. Last I placed with a character bio I wrote beginning to end in an hour and did not place with one which I had been researching for about a year.

I think it had a grand total of two reviews on SOA and zero on MPTT. Certainly no sex appeal! Was that your Elwing essay last year? I really liked that.

Congrats on your wins too, Pande. I'm so glad Flame of the Desert won. I love that story, even though I didn't read it until the awards this year. Thanks, IgBee! I may write a sequel, thanks to instigation from the Supreme Ultimate Lizard. It will again feature Elrond, Glorfindel and Gilfanon and involve Forbidden Vanyarin Hairstyles (yes, Darth is an insidious influence). That was a great story! And so are your others (love Avar and Away). Which I didn't review. *Self-flagellates*

I poured my heart and months of research into Fingon, however! LOL!! I'm looking up your light essay.

I am so there!
Darth is a bad influence, but in a good way. lol
I have a confession to make as well. I read Woolgathering but I had no idea who the people were so I could never formulate a review for that one. *hangs head in shame*

Darth is a bad influence, but in a good way. lol Is he the same guy who has just made me write something I had decided not to write? If it is any consolation, IB, I had to go in search of Unfinished Tales to look up the names of the Queen and who was related to whom.

From MEFA10 stats: Holy freakin' moly. I don't know about the second statistic, but the first and the third? Those are for Flame of the Desert! Who knew that drug-fueled elven road trips were such a popular genre?
